The Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ) is making history with the launch of India's first-ever marathon organized entirely by media professionals for the public, taking place on Sunday, December 20, 2026. Setting off from the iconic Lt. Baburao Sanas Ground near Sarasbaug in central Pune, this landmark initiative brings together journalists, athletes, youth, and local residents for a day dedicated to community health, active living, and public engagement.

The marathon offers three distinct distance categories designed for various fitness levels and age groups. Serious runners can take on the 10.549 km Quarter Marathon, open to men and women aged 18 and above, complete with electronic RFID chip timing. Adults seeking a shorter, energetic challenge can register for the 5 km Fitness Run (18+ years), while young sports enthusiasts under 18 years of age can showcase their athletic spirit in the 3 km Youth Run for boys and girls.

Participants will receive an official race kit containing a dry-fit event T-shirt, standard chest bib (with timing chips for 10.549 km runners), full on-course hydration and medical support, a commemorative finisher medal, digital certificates, and post-race refreshments.
