The 25th Thane Varsha Marathon, to be held on August 24, is all set to go hi- tech this year.
For, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will fit a time-recording chip in the shoes of the athletes to get the exact time taken to reach the finishing line. “The move is to bring in more transparency. The chip will be fitted in the shoes of those who participate in the 21km marathon,” said Thane mayor HS Patil.
Athletes from all over the state participate in the marathon organised every monsoon. The marathon is organised by the Thane civic body in collaboration with the Thane district athletic association.
The mayor recently held a meeting to discuss the details of the marathon such as the route, theme and slogan.
The arrangements for the event will be decided in the coming weeks. The mayor has assured that the potholes will be repaired before the event. The spots for providing medical facilities and first-aid centres too will be finalised.
Government, aided and private schools from Thane will participate in the event."
